LIFESPAN LEARNINGOur faith is founded on a commitment to principle rather than to dogma, so our education programs may be quite different than that of other church communities. We believe, as Socrates once said, "wisdom begins in wonder." This simple phrase very eloquently describes our belief that one can achieve a higher sense of self, community and purpose through exploration and a commitment to questioning. It is our primary focus to provide a safe place to help foster this Socratic sense of wonder across the lifespan. Each year, our lifespan learning classes for children and youth focus on one "pillar" of our Unitarian Universalist faith. These pillars, developed with our own congregation's mission and vision in mind, include the Web of Life, Spirituality and Social Justice. This year, as we focus on developing Spirituality, each class will offer a broad knowledge of world religions, experience in spiritual practice, and an examination of what it really means to be a Unitarian Universalist. Our curriculum is derived from many sources; some lessons come from story books and UUA- published curricula, while others come from the children as they interact with their peers and teachers. We recognize that sometimes the greatest lessons can come from our youngest members and hope that they will find an environment where they feel they will be heard! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Amy Peterson Derrick, or look to our blog at www.uucflifespan.blogspot.com. You can also contact anyone from the Lifespan Learning Committee so that we can arrange a time to sit down together. We are so happy that you and your family are here with us!
